Always refer to a factory service manual when diagnosing engine service problems. You can damage electrical components if the proper procedures are not followed. Be sure you are replacing the correct part. C1 C2 C3 Starting around 1972, distributors were machined for this button. The flat top end of the button is what contacts the end of the crossgear. Look on the backside of the distributor housing (opposite the gear and fitting opening) if it is is the later distributor there will be a hole in the casting going all the way through. You never know how parts have been changed on your Corvette over the years.
